Self-Hosted Node Operations & Maintenance

A PanelOps Self-Hosted Node runs directly on your server, providing localized management of Docker containers, Git application deployments, databases, and reverse proxy routing with high performance and low overhead.

1. High-Performance Local Execution

PanelOps is designed for maximum efficiency when managing your server:

  • Native Speed: Operations run with direct, low-latency execution for container deployments, database backups, and health monitoring.
  • Asynchronous File Handling: Fast, asynchronous file read/write operations for rapid configuration updates and volume management.
  • Low Footprint: Minimal background resource utilization with automatic low-memory adaptation on small VPS instances.

2. Directory Layout (/opt/panelops)

All PanelOps server files and configurations reside under /opt/panelops:

/opt/panelops/
├── server.js # Application runtime daemon
├── package.json # Dependencies and version metadata
├── data/
│ ├── session-secret # Protected session security configuration
│ └── logs/ # Service and daemon logs
├── public/ # Static assets and UI views
└── nginx/ # Automated reverse proxy virtual hosts

3. Managing the Systemd Service

PanelOps runs as a managed systemd daemon:

# Check service status
sudo systemctl status panelops

# Restart PanelOps
sudo systemctl restart panelops

# View live runtime logs
sudo journalctl -u panelops -f

# Stop PanelOps
sudo systemctl stop panelops

4. Node Uninstall Wizard

If you ever wish to decommission a server or migrate to another machine, PanelOps provides a safe uninstaller:

curl -fsSL https://panelops.online/uninstall.sh | sudo bash

Alternatively, navigate to Settings → Node Maintenance → Uninstall Wizard in the panel UI to choose between:

  1. Preserve Applications: Remove only the PanelOps management panel, keeping your Docker containers, websites, and databases running untouched.
  2. Complete Cleanup: Full wipe of PanelOps, managed containers, volumes, and reverse proxy rules.
